- Melbourne Bike Share is the largest bike-sharing system in Australia.
- Melbourne Bike Share is unique in that it is the first bike-sharing system in the world in a location where helmets are mandated by law. Two groundbreaking methods introducing helmets to users have been initiated in this system, including a prototype helmet-vending machine and a partnership with local retailers to sell subsidised helmets. Over 6,000 helmets have been sold at $5 each through this program, and users can return them to the local 7-11 stores and receive a $3 refund.
- Melbourne Bike Share operates year-round.
- Melbourne Bike Share has affectionately come to be known as ‘‘Melbourne Blue Bikes’’ after the System’s prominent royal blue colour.
